Specialized Therapy for your Individual Goals

Psychotherapy Services

Did you know that 1 in 5 people struggle with their mental health? Anxiety and depression skyrocketed during the COVID-19 Pandemic causing many people to reach out for help. Psychotherapy is an effective tool that has been scientifically proven to reduce emotional suffering and improve overall mental health for many people.

In psychotherapy, we meet at a frequency that aligns with your treatment goals (often this is weekly) to bring about relief as quickly as possible. You can expect to work in a safe space that feels genuine, collaborative, and healing.

My treatment approach is integrative, blending psychodynamic, existential, and cognitive/behavioral methods to address your individual needs and goals. This means we will examine your complex life history and work to understand who you are and how your mind functions. As you build richer insight into your self, you’ll also be learning valuable coping skills to help you feel better.

Often the first phase of therapy focuses on reducing the severity of your symptoms, such as low mood, anxiety, or symptoms of trauma. As therapy unfolds further, we will work together to understand how these symptoms arose in the first place and how to bring about change at your emotional center. From there we continue to remove obstacles that get in the way of living the life you want.

Specializations

Depression and Low Mood

If you are experiencing sadness, tearfulness, frustration, low motivation, poor sleep, low energy, not finding pleasure in life, or a strong desire to be alone, you may be depressed. You might experience depression for a number of reasons, whether due to trauma, loss, significant life change, or a life that is out of alignment with your values. Through therapy, we can better understand the source of these feelings and bring about real change in your life and relationships.

Trauma (Complex Trauma and PTSD)

Trauma can refer to an event or series of events, that were incredibly difficult to experience and live through. Trauma can feel as if you have one foot stuck in the past and the other in the present. Often survivors of trauma report intrusive thoughts/memories of what happened and nightmares can interrupt your sleep making you feel exhausted. You might notice negative emotions like anger, shame, and guilt, and it can be challenging to experience positive feelings like happiness, love, and joy. After trauma, it is common to feel constantly on edge and hyperaware of your surroundings, and relationships may not feel safe anymore. I understand how important is to rebuild that sense of safety in your life so that you can work through past trauma and begin living in the present. I have specialized training in Prolonged Exposure, a gold-standard therapy that is scientifically proven to reduce trauma symptoms, help you return to the activities and situations that currently feel unsafe, and improve your mood. If you don’t feel quite ready to process your trauma, you’re not alone in that, and my therapy approach can help you develop the coping skills needed to begin working through what happened.

Anxiety and Stress

Anxiety has become far more common in recent years: the COVID-19 pandemic, economic stressors, and other factors have placed a tremendous amount of pressure on us and our families. Anxiety can look like worry, tension, and feeling like you have no control over aspects of your life. Racing thoughts can keep you up all night leading to poor sleep and fatigue. Through therapy, we can work together to understand your brain and body’s reaction to stress, develop coping skills, and build a sense of comfort and control in your day-to-day life.

Relationship Problems

If you find yourself repeating painful patterns in relationships and you don’t know why these problems keep happening or what to do to change them, therapy may help. I can help you understand your relationship patterns and how to change them so you can find more peace and stability within your relationships. My therapy approach can help you to both increase your insight into your interpersonal style as well as improve your communication skills. Relationships are an incredibly important part of life and when our relationships suffer, we suffer. Therapy can help you work through trust and intimacy problems so you can feel safe, loved, and fulfilled by your relationships.
